City working with Kerby Centre to transition Seniors Centre operations
The Veiner Centre will reopen to the public on Monday, July 12, under City management. Kerby Centre will assume partial operations at the Veiner Centre and Strathcona Centre on Tuesday, August 3, following the Heritage Day long weekend. The transition is expected to be complete in September.
“Kerby Assembly is bringing more than 45 years of experience working with seniors and older adults,” said Councillor Julie Friesen. “We are absolutely thrilled to welcome their knowledge and expertise to Medicine Hat and are excited to see what they bring for our current members and our entire community.”
“We cannot wait to welcome everyone into the Veiner Centre and Strathcona Centre, places members have come to love,” said Larry Mathieson, CEO for Kerby Centre. “It is our mission to support older adults to live well in their community. We’re able to achieve this by offering numerous programs, services, and supports to our members.”
The City and Kerby Centre will work with members through the transition period, ensuring that many of the programs and services will be available to members and the broader community once the transition is complete. Registered programming will begin in September.
Kerby Centre will also administer the Meals on Wheels program, with the help of volunteers, beginning in August. This switch will not impact current clients. The contact and ordering process will remain the same and there will be no need for clients to reapply to the program.
An interim summer schedule for the Veiner Centre is now available on the city website.
