City, YMCA partner to offer swimming amid annual pool closures

Medicine Hat – The City and the YMCA of Medicine Hat have partnered together to encourage recreational opportunities, including indoor swimming, in our community throughout the summer.

During the temporary facility closure of Crestwood Rec Centre in July, the YMCA will honour active Crestwood memberships at both their downtown and South Ridge locations. This includes access to the weights and cardio machines, group fitness classes, as well as the pool for lane swimming.

“We greatly value the partnership we have with the YMCA of Medicine Hat and we were thrilled when they approached us about honouring our current memberships during the annual shutdown of our facilities over the summer,” said James Will, Director with the Parks & Recreation Department. “This is just another example of the great work the YMCA does to support the health and wellbeing of residents in our community.”

“Given that we are a current partner with the City and operate the South Ridge YMCA on behalf of the City, we saw an opportunity to offer another option for active passholders during the maintenance shutdown for both Crestwood in July and the Big Marble Go Centre in August,” said Sharon Hayward, Chief Executive Officer with the YMCA of Medicine Hat.

In late August, the YMCA will also honour active Big Marble Go Centre memberships during its annual shutdown, which is scheduled to take place from Thursday, August 18 to Monday, September 5.

The City of Medicine Hat is a current partner with the YMCA of Medicine Hat, who operate the South Ridge Recreation and Wellness Centre, commonly referred to as the South Ridge YMCA, on behalf of the City. The City of Medicine Hat owns this site in partnership with the Catholic Board of Education and the Medicine Hat Public School Division.
