Council and administration advocate for our community at Alberta Municipalities convention
Medicine Hat – A delegation of City Council members and administration travelled to Edmonton on September 26 to attend the annual Alberta Municipalities convention. Mayor Linnsie Clark, Councillors Van Dyke, McGrogan, Sharps and Robins attended the event, along with City Manager Ann Mitchell; Managing Director of Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer, Dennis Egert; and Managing Director of Development and Infrastructure, Pat Bohan.
The three-day, annual event provides elected officials and municipal administrators an opportunity to connect with provincial representatives and learn more about their mandates, as well as counterparts from other municipalities – both political and administrative.
Members of the City of Medicine Hat delegation were able to:
- Connect with colleagues and staff from the Alberta Municipalities organization.
- Complete Elected Official Education Program (EOEP) courses.
- Meet with Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Services, Mike Ellis to discuss regional policing, police commission appointments, mental health, and how Minister Ellis’ mandate relates to the City of Medicine Hat. Member of the Legislative Assembly for Cypress-Medicine Hat Justin Wright attended the meeting as an advocate for Medicine Hat.
- Meet with the administrative arm of Municipal Affairs regarding upcoming changes to funding as well as current grant applications.
- Meet with Opposition Critics for Municipal Affairs to discuss ongoing challenges the city is facing.
- Meet with Minister of Environment and Protected Areas, Rebecca Schulz
- Meet with Minister of Jobs, Economy and Trade, Matt Jones.
- Connect with Minister of Immigration and Multiculturalism, Muhammad Yaseen, to extend an invitation to visit Medicine Hat.
- Connect with Minister of Municipal Affairs, Ric McIvor, to extend an invitation to visit Medicine Hat.
