City Assessor, Sue Sterkenburg, provided an Assessment 101 presentation to City Council, outlining the process for assigning a dollar value to each property for the purpose of property taxation. The annual update to assessment values ensures ongoing, fair distribution of property taxes.
Kevin Redden, Director of Environment, Land and Government Relations, presented to Council on Strategic Planning: Environmental Stewardship. The presentation outlined, for Council’s consideration, the City’s intent to develop an environmental framework that will define an overarching strategy to guide the City of Medicine Hat in five proposed key action areas: land use and biodiversity; renewable energy; energy conservation; water security; and waste and recycling.

Council received the minutes of the Municipal Planning Commission meeting of December 8 for information.
City Council passed first reading of Bylaw #4692, a bylaw of the City of Medicine Hat to adopt the Northwest Industrial Area Structure Plan. A public hearing will take place at the March 7 meeting of Council.
