Council Highlights March 21 2022

Under new business, Councillor Knodel introduced the following resolution which was approved by Council.

WHEREAS City Council directed administration to develop the NW industrial ASP; and

WHEREAS on March 7, 2022 a Public Hearing was held and closed for Bylaw #4692 - a Bylaw of the City of Medicine Hat to adopt the Northwest Industrial Area Structure Plan; and

WHEREAS at the Public Hearing City Council heard the potential impacts that the Northwest Industrial Area Structure Plan would have on the Northwest Industrial area recreational clubs; and

WHEREAS City Council recognizes the City’s long-term desire to transition the club lands to their intended industrial use while recognizing the clubs for their important contribution to community vibrancy;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT City Council directs administration through the City Manager to engage with the individual Northwest Industrial area recreational clubs to determine a mutually agreeable path forward that supports the long term viability of the clubs; and

FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED THAT potential paths forward for each club may involve a defined lease extension up to 20 years and related terms and conditions, relocation prospects, or other such solutions that may be of interest to the clubs while simultaneously satisfying alignment with longer term community growth plans.

City Council passed second and third reading of Bylaw #4692, a bylaw of the City of Medicine Hat to adopt the Northwest Industrial Area Structure Plan.

James Will, Director of Parks and Recreation, presented to Council on the Parks and Recreation Master Plan.

Under unfinished business, Council approved the Parks and Recreation Master Plan.

Sue Sterkenburg, City Assessor, presented to Council the 2022 Assessment Roll Overview.

Council received the minutes of the Energy and Infrastructure Committee meeting of March 3 for information.

Council received the minutes of the Corporate Services Committee meeting of March 10 for information.

Council received the minutes of the Council Employee Committee meeting of March 15 for information.

Council received the minutes of the Administrative Committee of March 16 for information and approved the Offer to Purchase 21 Ranchlands Boulevard NE.

Council received the minutes of the Municipal Planning Commission meeting of January 26 for information.

Council received the minutes of the Police Commission meeting of February 24 for information.

Council received the Annual Development Statistics for 2021 for information.
