Crestwood Recreation Centre closed for unplanned maintenance

Medicine Hat – The main boiler at the Crestwood Pool failed the morning of April 19, 2023 and the facility is closed immediately for unplanned maintenance.

The boiler affects both the temperature of the pool water and the indoor air temperature.

A replacement boiler and parts are on hand and repairs have already begun, though work is expected to take at least three weeks.

While repairs are in progress, the entire facility, including the fitness area, will remain closed to the public.

Staff are making arrangements to move or reschedule swimming lessons and swim club. Anyone scheduled in lessons at Crestwood Pool during the closure will be contacted directly by aquatic staff to advise next steps.

Crestwood aquafit classes are cancelled but work is underway to add additional classes at the Big Marble Go Centre. Existing Crestwood memberships will be honoured at the Big Marble Go Centre for the duration of the closure.

The boiler was scheduled to be replaced during the annual pool shutdown scheduled for July 2023. Delivery on a boiler unit can take up to 12 weeks so the current repair time is significantly reduced by having the boiler on hand.

The City of Medicine Hat thanks residents for their patience and understanding as crews make emergency repairs.
