Detours in effect during Stampede Parade on July 27, 2023
Medicine Hat – The Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede Parade is taking place on Thursday, July 27 at 9 a.m.
Several road closures will be in place to accommodate the increase in pedestrian traffic and parade floats.
Beginning at 7:30 a.m. there will be no on-street parking at the following locations:
- 800 and 900 blocks of Second Street SE
- 800 block of Third Street SE
- Allowance Avenue SE
- Woodman Avenue SE
Major roadways, including Finlay Bridge, Maple Avenue Bridge and Maple Avenue between First Street SE and Third Street SE will be closed beginning at 8:30 a.m. for the duration of the parade. The following roads will also be closed for the parade route:
- First Street SE – Maple Avenue SE to Fourth Avenue SE
- Second Street SE – South Railway Street SE to Fourth Avenue SE
- Third Street SE – South Railway Street SE to Fourth Avenue SE
- South Railway Street SE – Second Street SE to Fourth Street SE
- Fourth Avenue SE – First Street SE to Fourth Street SE
Medicine Hat Transit will continue to operate fully during the parade with some minor route adjustments. Buses will be allowed on the parade route until 8:50 a.m.
- Route 20 – River Flats: a limited route will run until the parade begins. This route will resume following the end of the parade.
- Route 10 – NECH and Route 11 – NWCH: both routes will end at the Hockey Hounds Arena on 9 Street NE at Division Avenue instead of the downtown terminal. A shuttle will be available for riders who wish to make their way to downtown.
The washrooms located inside City Hall and the Medicine Hat Transit parkade will be available to the public for the duration of the parade.
Motorists are reminded to obey all posted signs and to take extra caution while driving downtown due to the increase in pedestrian traffic.
