Echo Dale campground, off-leash area reopens to public
Medicine Hat – Beginning Saturday, August 20, the Echo Dale Campground and off-leash area within Echo Dale Regional Park will reopen to park visitors.
“We’re excited to be able to reopen these remaining areas of the park following such extensive damage from the storm in July,” said Dave Genio, Manager of Parks with the City of Medicine Hat. “Crews are still working within the park, and will be for some time, so we ask all visitors to continue giving them room to work.”
The boating lake remains closed to boats, including canoes, kayaks and paddleboards, but the lake will be open for fishing. The picnic areas east of the boat lake will remain closed until the end of the summer season due to significant hazards which remain in the area. This area includes a portion of the east parking lot.
The road leading to the campground and off-leash area will be open to pedestrians and vehicles on Saturday morning.
“We hope a few people take advantage of the campground at Echo Dale before it closes for the season,” Genio added. “There are 10 individual sites available to book, giving you access to the park, including the swim lake and trail system.”
The swim lake will close earlier for the season as many children and teens return to school at the end of August.
“Many of our seasonal staff are returning to school this fall, which does leave us short staffed and will end the summer swim season before the September long weekend,” Genio said. “We do want to share a sincere thank you to our seasonal workers and hope to see them back next year.”
The last day of summer operations, including the Swim Centre, is Sunday, August 28. Staff will begin draining the lake the following day.
