Hill Road SE closed this summer for road improvements

Medicine Hat – Starting Tuesday, July 4, Hill Road SE will be closed for road improvements. The project is expected to conclude at the end of August, depending on weather and unforeseen circumstances.

The City of Medicine Hat maintains a comprehensive asset management plan that helps inform capital spending decisions in each budget cycle. The Hill Road rehabilitation will include geometric improvements to enhance traffic safety, new curb and gutter, sidewalks and asphalt.

Last year, road rehabilitation on Hill Road SE began with improvements at intersection of Fifth Avenue SE to take advantage of synergies while the road was dug up for water and sewer enhancements. The project intentionally ended in August to avoid disrupting access to Alexandra Middle School when school began in the fall. The project continues this summer with the rest of the work on the sloped section of Hill Road SE between South Railway Street SE and Fifth Avenue SE.

Through July and August, drivers will not be able to access Hill Road SE from South Railway Street SE and will detour around the construction area to Fifth Street SE.

Sidewalks and trails along Hill Road SE, including the trail that crosses Hill Road SE, will be closed to pedestrians during the road closure. Refer to the map for more information.

For the safety of workers and the public, travelers are asked to obey all construction signage and detours around the work area.

The City thanks the public in advance for their patience and understanding while repairs are completed on this roadway.
