Invasive Buckthorn removal project

Medicine Hat – Members of Grasslands Naturalists and Parks and Recreation continue to remove Common Buckthorn (Rhamnus cathartica) in Police Point Park. The shrub can grow as large as a mature tree and is native to Europe and Asia. Here in Alberta, it is a prohibited noxious weed capable of outcompeting native species and negatively impacting biodiversity.

Work crews will be on site the week of April 11 throughout Police Point Park.

Residents are reminded to allow crews space to work safely, and to obey signage.
