LED Lighting Installation Complete at Kinplex Arena
The green energy initiative replaces current fixtures for both ice surfaces, increasing the lighting levels in the arena significantly.
“With the flick of a switch, players and staff will instantly see a difference stepping out onto the ice,” said Stephane Rainville, Superintendent of Recreation Facilities. “Even family and friends in the stands will notice how much brighter the rink is.”
A recent lighting assessment report for the Kinplex Arena provided cost saving recommendations, as well as information on how the City could further reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
A grant program available through the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre (MCCAC) funded approximately $92,000 towards the total cost of the project. The City contributed the remaining funding necessary.
These improvements are expected to save up to $9,900 annually in electricity costs and reduce GHG emissions by up to 90 tonnes.
