Local artists mount exhibition at TREX Space

Medicine Hat A group exhibition featuring artworks created by current members of the Medicine Hat based Strathcona Art Studios will be on display at TREX Space from Thursday, January 27 to Wednesday, March 30, 2022.

The exhibition, Life to Paper, Paper to Life, features work mainly in watercolour. Subject matter varies from artist to artist, but common themes are local nature and architecture.

19 of the group members will have their pieces features in the exhibition. Participating artists include Paula Appleton, June Burns, Eileen Cicon, Peggy Dawson, Charlene Dick, Lauren Hider, Marian Ho, Glenda Jans, Ray Townsend, Debbie Kammerer, Carol Kessler, Brenda Kobley, Fran Lauzon, Linda Lehr, Elaine Spitzer, Lois Street, Bob Townsend, Nancy Tripp and Michele Winger.

“Attendees may be surprised at the great depth of talent in this group,” said Michele Winger, one of the featured artists. “Some artists have developed their skills for over 40 years, and it shows. Relative newcomers to the studio grow their talents quickly by learning from their peers.”

Strathcona Art Studios began in 1990 when students of Harold Smith’s watercolour classes decided to meet weekly in various locations. Meetings are now held September through June at the Veiner Centre, with outdoor painting during the summer months.

The group has participated in shows at the Veiner Centre, Police Point Park, the Cultural Centre and Café Verve. They also regularly hang pieces in the Veiner Centre hallways.

TREX Space is open Monday to Friday, from noon to 5 p.m. and it is free for people to enjoy.
