Managing Director of Energy and Infrastructure moving on from City of Medicine Hat

Medicine Hat – After almost eight years with the City of Medicine Hat, Managing Director Brad Maynes has announced his intention to resign his position in June of this year and return to the private sector.

Maynes first joined the City in 2015 as the General Manager of what was then the Natural Gas and Petroleum Division (NGPR).  In early 2019 he took on an expanded portfolio that included the City's power and infrastructure functions at a managing director level.

During his time with the City of Medicine Hat, Maynes led a number of complex initiatives related to the City’s energy and infrastructure portfolio including shoring up the losses in the oil and gas division, urban gas well management, launching the City’s efforts to explore hydrogen and carbon capture utilization and storage, and the construction of Unit 17.

“Brad’s leadership and expertise has played a significant role in leading the City organization through a challenging era of energy transition,” says City Manager Ann Mitchell. “I would like to offer my personal thanks to Brad and wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

Maynes offered his own thoughts about his time with the organization.

"It has been a tremendous honour to be part of this great community and organization.  We accomplished much over the last eight years and the City is now in a much healthier financial position and is well set up to participate in the energy transition," says Maynes.

A transitional leadership plan for the division is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
