Medicine Hat Fire Services team will compete in National Firefit competition

Get ready to rally behind some of our local Firefighters as the Medicine Hat Firefit team takes on the challenge of a lifetime.

Known as “the toughest two minutes in sports,” the Firefit Championships push firefighters to their physical and mental limits through a series of high-intensity tasks that they may face in real-life emergency situations.

This year, our Medicine Hat team is comprised of Steve Seymour, Jason Labash, Michael Arnold, Josh Hauck, Dylan Yanke, and Josh Fauth. Some of the team is headed to the Firefit Nationals in Kamloops (September 25 to 29), and then to the World Championships in Nashville starting October 21.

In Kamloops, our team will compete with over 350 firefighters from around the world and face rigorous events such as hose hoists, forcible entry, and victim rescues, all performed under strict time limits and rules.

Training for these events is no small task. When they aren’t on duty, the team is hard at work, often seen training at 6 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and again on Saturdays. Their dedication and teamwork have prepared them to take on the national and world stages, where they will compete in the individual, team, relay and Tech2 events.
