Naturalization in progress at Gershaw interchange

Medicine Hat – Crews are continuing work to transition areas surrounding the Gershaw Drive SW interchange at Highway 3 to an alternative, natural landscape.

The newly landscaped areas will include native and hardy grasses, helping to lower the cost of watering, as well as a meadow prairie along the northwest edge of the interchange which will attract bees and other pollinators.

The majority of this land is not owned by the City of Medicine Hat and will therefore be kept to a typical highway standard of maintenance.

In transitioning to a natural landscape, the public may notice more weeds throughout the space, which is common while the taller grasses fully establish in the area.

Please help us protect this environment by respecting the area.

The City of Medicine Hat thanks residents for their patience as the naturalization process continues.
