New Managing Director of Public Services
The City of Medicine Hat announced new Managing Director of Public Services, Joseph Hutter, late last week.
He will replace current Managing Director, Brian Stauth on October 1. Managing Director Stauth is set to retire at the end of 2024 after wrapping up some of the projects that he has been leading during his time in the role.
Clean Energy Improvement Program
Applications are rolling in for Medicine Hat’s Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP) which is designed to help homeowners make energy-efficient upgrades and install renewable energy systems by providing access to low-cost financing.
Here are some key points about the program:
-
Financing: CEIP offers financing that is repaid through property taxes over time at a low 3.25% interest rate, making it easier to manage the upfront costs of energy improvements.
-
Eligible upgrades: The program covers a wide range of upgrades, including solar panels, energy-efficient windows and doors, upgraded insulation, and high-efficiency furnaces.
-
Benefits: By participating in CEIP, property owners can lower their utility bills, increase the comfort of their homes, and enhance property value.
-
Incentives: The City of Medicine Hat is offering a 6.6% rebate for completed CEIP projects while funding lasts, and an additional 3.6% for completed CEIP projects on residential properties built before 1990.
Community Warmth
When the calendar flips to September, the kids head back to school, we all start guzzling pumpkin spice lattes, and the ever-familiar dance begins between sweaters in the morning and shorts in the afternoon. This is also the best time of the year to remember that there are ways to help those in need stay warm all winter:
-
Consider tying a scarf around a light post or tree. If someone needs it, they’ll take it.
-
Keep a ‘care bag’ in your car. Pack a Ziploc with a warm pair of socks, mittens, and toque. Hand it out when you see the opportunity.
-
Donate to Community Warmth. This neighbour-helping-neighbour program offers a convenient, cost-effective mechanism for customers to donate money by having a dollar amount added to your utility bill each month. This funding assists City of Medicine Hat utility customers who are unable to pay their utility bill due to financial hardship or crisis. Learn more at medicinehat.ca/CommunityWarmth.
