New playground at Big Marble Go Centre now open

Medicine Hat — The City of Medicine Hat is pleased to announce the completion of a brand-new play structure at Big Marble Go Centre.

Aligning with the city’s Playground Management Plan, the new playground has been designed following extensive feedback from local community stakeholders and children's groups. These consultations underscored the community’s preference for diverse styles of playgrounds, favoring adventure and natural style play structures.

"The new play structure embodies our commitment to creating a destination space that is inclusive and accessible to everyone," says Jamie McLeod, City of Medicine Hat. "Through community engagement and collaboration, the new playground reflects our community's needs, desires, and best practices."

The City's Working Group on Accessibility and Inclusion (WGAI) and Medicine Hat Adaptive Sport played key roles in the project, contributing invaluable insights to ensure accessibility and inclusivity. Industry best practices were also researched extensively to ensure the playground offers a best-in-class experience.

“On behalf of Medicine Hat City Council, I would like to extend our deepest gratitude to all City staff, community groups, parents, and advocates who contributed to making the new playground at the Big Marble Go Centre a reality,” says Mayor Linnsie Clark. “I would also like to thank our community for their patience. I know the playground at Big Marble Go Centre was sorely missed by many in our community, particularly young families. I’m so glad that they can once again experience the joy of playing outdoors and adventure at this amazing facility.”

Positioned closer to the facility entrance and shielded by trees for natural sun and wind protection, the new playground caters to children of all ages and abilities.
