Public washroom facility in Strathcona Island Park closed for winter

Medicine Hat – The public washrooms near the play structure in Medicine Hat’s Strathcona Island Park have been closed for the winter season. Two portable restrooms are in place until spring for those who visit the area.

The washroom facility is typically open year-round. In recent years, the water and wastewater infrastructure sustained recurring damage due to freezing in extreme temperatures. The decision to close the facility in favour of porta-potties was made with the intention to rehabilitate the building in 2023.
