Snow Angels campaign returns to Medicine Hat
The City of Medicine Hat is pleased to help re-launch the popular Snow Angels campaign for the first time since 2020.
The Snow Angels campaign encourages Hatters to be good neighbours by helping neighbours in need with snow removal. The campaign is a collaborative initiative between the City of Medicine, Unison at Veiner Centre, Medicine Hat Police Services’ Municipal Bylaw Enforcement, and Neighbourhood Associations of Medicine Hat.
Keeping sidewalks shoveled, ice-free, and safe is important for all residents. But it can be very challenging to do for many people with disabilities, illnesses, and age-related mobility issues.
Residents who need a Snow Angel can request one by filling out a registration form to sign up and receive signage. This signage can be placed in a visible location in the front window or front lawn so that Snow Angels can see their assistance is needed.
To be a Snow Angel, all residents need to do is shovel snow for a person or persons in need in their neighbourhood. If a Snow Angel requires a shovel, one may be provided.
Residents who receive assistance also can nominate their Snow Angel. These nominations help celebrate the generosity and community spirit of volunteers who have made Snow Angels possible.
Visit the City’s Snow Angels webpage for more information on the initiative to be ready for the next snowfall, including:

Quotes
Snow Angels is a great way for people to help out a neighbour and bring the community closer together – all you need is a shovel and a little time. It’s a small act that can have a big impact. Small acts of kindness like this build strong communities that care for each other and support one another.
– Shantel Ottenbreit, Community Resource Worker, City of Medicine Hat
We are excited to partner with the City on the Snow Angels campaign. As a senior centre, we hear daily from older adults who need help with snow removal due to mobility or health challenges. This campaign, supported by our generous community, will ensure that those who face barriers, whether due to health, finances, living alone, or recovering from illness can keep their sidewalks clear and safe. Our goal is to make sure no one is left struggling with something as essential as a safe walkway.
– Erin Reeder, Manager of Programs, Unison at Veiner Centre
