Correction

Special ballots may be requested from the Elections Office up to, and including, election day. All Special Ballots must be received by the Elections Office no later than the close of voting (8:00 p.m.) on Monday, October 20 to be counted.

The release below has been updated to reflect this change. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.

Medicine Hat City residents who are unable to attend a voting station between Saturday, October 4 and Monday, October 20, 2025 can participate in the 2025 Municipal Election by requesting a Special (mail-in) Ballot.

“We want every eligible voter in Medicine Hat to have their say in the 2025 Municipal Election, even if they’re out of town during voting,” said Tarolyn Aaserud, Returning Officer. “Special Ballots offer a reliable and secure way to participate in the democratic process from wherever you are."

Individuals may choose to receive their special ballot package either by mail (sent to their mailing address) or by picking it up in person at City Hall from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Packages will be available for pickup starting at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 24.

Special Ballots can be returned in-person by the voter to the Elections Office at City Hall or mailed at the cost of the voter.  All Special Ballots must be received by the Elections Office no later than the close of voting (8:00 p.m.) on Monday, October 20 to be counted.
