Special Ballot requests now being accepted ahead of the 2025 Municipal Election

Medicine Hat – City residents who are unable to attend a voting station between Saturday, October 4 and Monday, October 20, 2025 can participate in the 2025 Municipal Election by requesting a Special (mail-in) Ballot.
“We want every eligible voter in Medicine Hat to have their say in the 2025 Municipal Election, even if they’re out of town during voting,” said Tarolyn Aaserud, Returning Officer. “Special Ballots offer a reliable and secure way to participate in the democratic process from wherever you are."
Individuals may choose to receive their special ballot package either by mail (sent to their mailing address) or by picking it up in person at City Hall from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Packages will be available for pickup starting at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 24.
Special Ballots can be returned in-person to the Elections Office at City Hall or mailed at the cost of the voter, however all ballots MUST be received at the Elections Office before 5 p.m. on Monday, October 20 to be counted. Late submissions will not be accepted.
Individuals can request a special ballot in any of the following ways:
- Online: Visit medicinehat.ca/voterinfo to download the Special Ballot Request Form
- By phone: Calling the Elections Office at 403-529-8221
- In person: At the Elections office, located on the third floor of City Hall at 580 First Street SE, Medicine Hat, AB, T1A 8E6
The deadline to request a special ballot is 4 p.m. on Friday, October 3.
