Trail Enhancements Connect Downtown to Southern Trail System

Medicine Hat – The City of Medicine Hat is beginning tree removal operations during the week of March 15, 2021, as part of a project to construct a three-metre wide multi-use trail that spans 550 metres from Kingsway Avenue SE to 5 Street SE downtown.

As one of the Municipal Stimulus Program (MSP) projects, the new pedestrian trail will connect the downtown core to the existing South Railway Street SE sidewalk/trail system that leads to the more southern areas of town.

Silver Maple trees will be removed along South Railway Street between 5 Street and Hill Road to make way for the new trail. These trees were assessed by a city arborist and it was determined that some of the trees have deteriorated and their removal is necessary. The trees in the area will be removed and replaced at a three to one ratio in the Saratoga Dog Park at a later date.

During tree removal, the public is advised to obey all signs in the area and to remain a safe distance from any construction activities. Motorists are asked to drive with caution when in the area.

Project updates will continue when construction occurs in the spring.
