Travelling exhibitions available for public venues
Medicine Hat – The Southeast region of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts (AFA) Travelling Exhibition program (TREX Southeast) is once again launching a new season of visual art exhibitions available for venues to book beginning Monday, May 2, 2022.
Public venues will be able to preview the exhibitions online at trexprogramsoutheast.ca, as well as additional information on how to book and host the travelling exhibitions.
"These exhibitions are great for schools, libraries, community centres and other public venues because of the interaction they receive from people who might not otherwise take in an art display or exhibit," said Genevieve Farrell, Program Manager and Curator with TREX Southeast. "All of the exhibits are professionally curated and feature Albertan artwork."
For the 2022 – 2023 season, TREX Southeast is offering 17 new exhibitions, which together feature the work of 83 Albertan artists. The exhibition themes are diverse and appropriate for a broad range of audiences, with both historic and contemporary artwork in a wide range of media available. Each exhibition comes with an interpretive catalogue and lesson plans for venues to keep and utilize.
Bookings are confirmed on a first come, first served basis, so interested venues are asked to submit their requests early.
The TREX program is a provincially sponsored initiative designed to promote Albertan art and artists.
TREX is coordinated by four regional organizations: the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie in the Northwest, the Art Gallery of Alberta in the Northeast, the Alberta Society of Artists in the Southwest, and the Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre in the Southeast. TREX Space, an art gallery in downtown Medicine Hat, acts as headquarters for the Southeast region and offers free and accessible art viewing for citizens of and visitors to the city.
