Upgrades coming to Police Point, Echo Dale parks
Medicine Hat – The City of Medicine Hat will begin trail rehabilitation and lighting upgrade projects after this coming weekend. These projects reaffirm the City’s commitment to maintaining the high quality of the 170-plus kilometres of its Heritage Trail Network. This ensures it continues to provide residents of all ages with reliable opportunities for pedestrian access across the city.
Lighting upgrade
Crews will be replacing the lighting around the boat lake and south side of the swim lake at Echo Dale Regional Park. These upgrades will ensure the pathways around the park are reliable and well-lit year round. This work will have minor impacts to the boat hut parking lot and walking path. Residents are asked to be mindful of workers present and enjoy areas away from this work where possible. Weather permitting, this work will be completed by mid-October 2024.
Trail rehabilitation
Echo Dale/Gas City – Residents who use the trail network between Gas City Campground and Echo Dale Regional Park will soon notice a smoother journey between the two facilities. Crews will remove the two Texas gates on the trail and rehab the adjacent trail, which improve accessibility and inclusivity. These Texas gates no longer serve the purpose of containing cattle.
Police Point Park – Trail rehabilitation in Police Point Park trail will occur near the south side of the parking lot and on the trail between the park entrance and Medicine Hat Golf and Country Club. Crews will work in an environmentally-friendly manner that ensures safety and stability for wildlife and plants in the area. There will be minor parking lot impacts during this work.
Residents are asked to please obey posted signage identifying trail closures in these two work areas. Weather permitting, this trail rehabilitation work will be completed by late-October 2024.
The City of Medicine Hat would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding as these necessary upgrades are completed in a timely manner.
