3 Street SE construction into final stage of 2024

Medicine Hat – The 3 Street SE Downtown Utility and Surface Upgrades project remains on schedule for fall completion and will shift into the final stage of the planned 2024 construction, starting Tuesday, September 17.

The 600 block of 3 Street SE is complete and will re-open to motorists by noon on Tuesday. This block will operate as two-way traffic until the final stage of construction is complete.

The final stage of 2024 will close the intersection of 6 Avenue SE and 3 Street SE, merging work zones with the 500 block of 3 Street SE which remains under construction. This closure will also occur by noon on Tuesday, though it may close mid-morning.

Weather permitting, this project is anticipated to be completed by early November 2024.

Downtown businesses remain open during this project. Residents can view a list of downtown parking options while accessing these businesses at: medicinehat.ca/downtownparking

The purpose of the 3 Street SE Downtown Utility and Surface Upgrades project has been to upgrade water and sewer systems which are over 100 years old. This will increase the reliability and quality of our utility infrastructure in the downtown core. The project also includes replacement and enhancement of sidewalks and curbs, and the addition of new street furniture, planters, trees and signage.

The City of Medicine Hat would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding during these necessary upgrades.
