City will update election page to include candidate information

Medicine Hat – Following further review of the inclusion of candidate information on the 2025 municipal election website, City of Medicine Hat will proceed with offering candidates the opportunity to add their campaign information to the City website. This information will be added to the official Candidate List, now available on the City website at medicinehat.ca/candidatelist.

The City made the decision to remove all links to election candidate information (websites, social media feeds, etc.) from www.medicinehat.ca/election after hearing concern from the community that linking to candidate information could be perceived as an endorsement of viewpoints. As a precaution, all links to candidate information were removed while the matter was further explored. The decision to remove the links was announced on September 3. 

Upon further review and consultation, the City determined that it is acceptable to provide links on its website to election candidate information, subject to the inclusion of an appropriate disclaimer. An email has been sent to all election candidates offering a digital form to provide their campaign information for inclusion on the election website. Starting September 24, information from each candidate will be published as soon as possible in the order the submissions are received. 

The disclaimer on the candidate list webpage will indicate that the views, opinions, and information expressed on external candidate websites and social media platforms are those of the candidates alone and do not represent the views of the City.
