Community Spirit Awards Gala rescheduled for May

Medicine Hat – With many of the COVID restrictions now lifted, the City of Medicine Hat is pleased to announce the gala event for the 2021 Community Spirit Awards will take place on Thursday, May 19, at the Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre.

The event will honour five Medicine Hat residents as well as four community groups, for their outstanding contributions to the community.

The 2021 Community Spirit Award recipients are:

  • Derek Whitson – Community Inclusion
  • Helen Snortland – Compassion
  • Medicine Hat Curling Club – Compassion
  • Gerry Ehlert – Environment
  • Medicine Hat Interpretive Program – Environment
  • Medicine Hat College Rattlers Athletics – Sports/Recreation
  • Nicholas Samuelson – Volunteerism
  • Prairie Gleaners Society - Volunteerism
  • Martha Munz Gue – Award of Excellence, Heart of Medicine Hat

The gala event will be held in the main theatre. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the program will begin at 7 p.m. Members of the public and past recipients are welcome to attend.

The Community Spirit Awards are presented every two years to individuals and groups whom the community believes enhance the quality of life in Medicine Hat through their dedication, activities, and accomplishments in the areas of arts/culture, sports/recreation, environment, volunteerism, community inclusion, community service and civic pride.

Since 1979, more than 130 Civic/Community Spirit Awards have been awarded, recognizing dedicated community contributors and their enhancements of the quality of life in Medicine Hat.
