Neat to Know: December 4, 2025
Your weekly roundup of City news, updates, and other important information.
Snow Angels have returned!
We’re pleased to help re-launch the popular Snow Angels campaign for the first time since 2020! The campaign is a collaborative initiative between the City of Medicine, Unison at Veiner Centre, Medicine Hat Police Services’ Municipal Bylaw Enforcement, and Neighbourhood Associations of Medicine Hat.
The Snow Angels campaign encourages Hatters to be good neighbours by helping neighbours in need with snow removal. Keeping sidewalks shoveled, ice-free, and safe is important for all residents, but it can be very challenging to do for many people with disabilities, illnesses, and age-related mobility issues.

Animal Pound Services update
Following last week’s Neat to Know update regarding the temporary closure of the Animal Pound Services facility, we’re pleased to update the public on the status.
Our Animal Pound Services facility has reopened to the public as of earlier this afternoon. All services have resumed to their standard level.
We appreciate the public’s understanding and support while this matter was responded to in a timely, thorough manner.

After a very well-attended virtual session last month to kick off the series, we’re ready for session two in-person this coming Monday!

Emergency Exercise
On Tuesday, December 2, the City of Medicine Hat and many other community partners, held a mock emergency exercise to prepare for real life emergency situations.
The functional exercise simulated the arrival of evacuees from a northern First Nations community displaced by wildfire and focused on testing reception processes, service coordination, and culturally appropriate supports.
The drill involved participation from City staff, Medicine Hat College staff and students, the Miywasin Friendship Centre, Red Cross, Animal Pound Services (APC), the Root Cellar, the Southeast Alberta Chamber of Commerce, the Medicine Hat Accommodation Association (MHAA), Alberta Health Services (AHS), and the Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA).
