Property assessments viewable online February 28
Your 2025 property assessment will be available to view online tomorrow, February 28 on the City’s Assessment Map. And watch your mailbox because assessment notices will be mailed March 6!
Collecting residential and non-residential property taxes is one of the various ways the City of Medicine Hat funds municipal services. Your property assessment is used to determine your share of the total property taxes collected.
Dye caramba! We’re testing the stormwater system
Don’t be alarmed if you see blue, red or violet colours in the South Saskatchewan River waters from now until March 6. We’re conducting standard testing of the stormwater system which may result in dye being discharged in the river near the Harlow neighbourhood.
Don’t worry, this is expected during this procedure and will have no impact on the quality of water in Medicine Hat.
Seven Persons Creek rises
This rapid melt has brought high water levels to Seven Persons Creek, which is affecting a couple of sections of trail in the city.
Saratoga Trail between Carry Drive and Spencer Street SE is closed This will reopen once water levels subside. Marlborough Coulee Trail remains open. However, due to melting snow, trail users must use caution.
The Trans-Canada Highway underpass in Kin Coulee Park is also closed until water levels. Please obey posted signage.
Residents are encouraged to be cautious of trail usage in other low areas while this rapid melt continues. Avoid areas where ice and/or significant water may be present.
Soon all trails will be dry and ready for a beautiful season!
Elephant’s Feet Crossing initiative continues
We will continue to convert standard trail crossings into elephant’s feet crossings as part of our 2025 construction efforts. This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to expand and support active transportation within the city! Currently there are 12 located around Medicine Hat.
- What are elephant’s feet crossings, and how do they work?
- How can you tell when one is approaching?
- What are the benefits of these crossings?
- Where are current crossings located?

Clear Horizon Transfer
Have you heard? The Government of Alberta has approved a request by the City of Medicine Hat to assign the Project Clear Horizon Carbon Sequestration Evaluation Agreement (CSEA) to Imperial Oil Limited.
A carbon capture hub in the region can play an important economic role in retaining our local emitting industrial partners, bolstering our ability to attract others, and maintaining the option to participate with our own carbon-emitting assets.
The City conducted extensive due diligence in the decision to transfer the agreement and identified Imperial as having the global experience necessary to continue with hub development.

Pothole-y moly!
We have been working hard all week filling the potholes that are emerging because of this rapid change in the weather.
Crews have started filling potholes on main roadways at 4 a.m. every day this week. Our team has dedicated two early crews for this work, and anywhere from three to five crews filling potholes during the day. Crews will continue starting this work at 4 a.m. for the next month.
We understand and share in your concern for smooth roadways around Medicine Hat. We’re working hard to catch up – all our Municipal Works maintenance staff are currently dedicated to either filling potholes or dealing with water drainage.

Where there’s smoke, there's Fire and Emergency Services
Did you know:
A total of $85.64 million worth of property and infrastructure caught fire in 2024.
Medicine Hat Fire and Emergency Services protected and saved nearly 97 per cent of this value ($83.29 million)!
That’s impressive work as they head into their 125th year of service in Medicine Hat! They’ve been a pillar of our community since 1900, and we thank them for their efforts.
