Residents can now view property tax account online through myMH portal

Medicine Hat – The City of Medicine Hat has launched a new property tax widget on the myMH portal that allows property owners to view their tax account online.

The first phase of the new widget went online on May 20, the day the 2022 tax notices were mailed. Residents can link their property tax account in the myMH Portal at mymh.medicinehat.ca using their corresponding tax roll number and personalized access code found on the printed tax notice to view their tax balance, last payment, details of their tax levy as well as current and previous tax notices and assessment notices.

“This is an exciting step forward. Residents have expressed the desire to receive communication electronically or through an e-Portal, similar to the online website available for utilities,” says Denise Schmaltz, Manager of Customer Care and Billing. “The widget offers one more choice in the numerous ways we can communicate with our customers.”

The portal is not mandatory. Customers will continue to receive information by mail. The next phase of development on this widget will include the option to choose paperless tax billing in 2023.

The City of Medicine Hat mailed the 2022 Property Tax Notices on May 20, 2022 along with information about the new property tax widget. Tax payments are due June 30, 2022.

“The Province of Alberta Land Titles Office is experiencing delays of three to four months in processing land title transfers, so recent ownership and mailing address changes may not be reflected on your notice this year. Or, in some cases, the notices were not delivered to the current owner,” explains Schmaltz. “It is important that customers who have not received their property tax notice by now contact us to obtain a copy to avoid penalties.”

A seven per cent late penalty is charged on unpaid tax balances on July 1, 2022.

Schmaltz adds, “The easiest way to pay your taxes is through monthly installments by signing up for the Tax Installment Payment Plan (TIPP) before June 30, 2022.”

Residents can also pay through internet or telephone banking, by credit card at www.paysimply.ca, at the after-hours drop box at the west entrance of City Hall, by mail or in person at City Hall.

Seniors wishing to defer all or part of their annual property tax can do so through a low interest home equity loan with the Government of Alberta. Application forms and program details are available online at alberta.ca/seniors-property-tax-deferral-program.aspx.

Login or create an account for myMH Portal at mymh.medicinehat.ca, or use the “myMH Login | Sign Up” button on the top header of the City website.

Anyone wishing for more information can contact Customer Care at 403-529-8111, tax@medicinehat.ca, or visit in person on the main floor of City Hall.
