Saamis Tepee site undergoes annual inspection

UPDATE

Medicine Hat - The Saamis Tepee site will be temporarily closed on Wednesday, July 27, in order for the City to conduct its annual inspection and complete preventative maintenance on the structure.

The work is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. and will be complete by 5 p.m. on Friday, July 29, weather permitting.

The temporary closure of the site includes the area directly below and around the tepee. The parking lot at the site and trails will remain open to visitors.

The Visitor Information Centre, including the picnic, playground area and the sanitary dumping station will also remain open during this time.

Originally constructed for the Calgary 1988 Winter Olympics, the Saamis Tepee is a tribute to Canada’s native heritage. Built entirely of steel with a concrete foundation, the tepee is ringed with 10 large circular story-boards depicting aspects of native culture and history.
