Work to extend a main gas line in Crescent Heights set to begin
Medicine Hat – Starting the week of Sept. 11, 2023, the City will begin work to extend a main gas line in Crescent Heights along the outside south and west boundaries of McCutcheon Drive NW.
The $1.4 million dollar project is a planned capital infrastructure upgrade to redirect current gas flow patterns, improving natural gas delivery to residents on the north side of Medicine Hat with less reliance on crossing the South Saskatchewan River from the south.
Work is expected to take approximately six to eight weeks and conclude by the end of October, dependent on weather. There are no expected gas outages for the public during construction.
Through construction, McCutcheon Trail will be closed at various points adjacent to the active work zone as the project progresses. See map for the full extent of the project.
There will also be minor traffic disruptions at various stages. There will be a short-duration single lane closure on 12 Street NW in Crescent Heights for directional drilling beneath the road. Another short-duration closure will occur on Fourth Avenue NW for 1.5 blocks between 3 Street NW and the back lane against the coulee. Area residents will be notified directly.
All open excavations will be fenced to protect the public from danger. Residents are reminded to use caution near the work zones and obey all construction signage and personnel.
