2026 trail rehabilitation program set to begin

Medicine Hat – The City of Medicine Hat will begin its 2026 trail rehabilitation program on Monday, Aug. 24. This year's program focuses on improving three key trail corridors within the Ross Creek trail network:

  • Carter Crescent Trail
  • Ross Glen Trail
  • East Glen Trail

As part of this project, the existing asphalt trail surfaces will be removed and reconstructed. The trails will also be widened from 2.5 metres to 3.0 metres, improving accessibility, increasing active transportation capacity, and enhancing the overall experience for trail users.

Construction activities will include asphalt removal, subgrade preparation and compaction, shoulder widening where required, paving of the expanded trail surface, and restoration of disturbed areas adjacent to the trails.

Crews will also replace outdated trail signage, repair and upgrade deteriorated fencing, and replace an existing culvert to improve drainage and support long-term trail performance.

Weather permitting, construction is expected to start early next week and continue until late October.

Signage will be posted indicating work ahead as crews progress down the trail. Users are asked to proceed with caution and choose alternate routes where possible.

This 1.23-kilometre trail investment is part of the City’s ongoing commitment to maintaining and enhancing the trail network, ensuring residents of all ages and abilities can safely enjoy active transportation and recreation opportunities throughout Medicine Hat.
