Annual roadway resurfacing program begins June 1
The City of Medicine Hat’s annual roadway resurfacing program is set to get underway Monday, June 1. The full roadway resurfacing program is expected to conclude by mid-September. All timelines indicated below are weather permitting and subject to change.
Each year, select roads are planned for resurfacing (milling and overlay) in the City’s capital budget based on the level of priority identified within a comprehensive asset management plan. The program is not to be confused with the City’s annual road rehabilitation program, which rebuilds the road structure.
The annual road resurfacing program has targeted four key locations in 2026. Work will begin with infrastructure repairs adjacent to the roadways, including catch basins, concrete curb and gutter, and sidewalks, with resurfacing to follow.

What to expect during this work
Two-way traffic flow will continue in each of these work zones. However, motorists should plan for delays around the work sites. For the safety of staff and the public, it is important that motorists obey all construction signage, flag personnel and temporary speed limits near these work zones.
The City of Medicine Hat would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding while this vital infrastructure improvement project is completed.
