Art in Motion: Celebrating Our Community

By Jessica Bromley, Cultural Programs Coordinator

What happens when you bring artists, performers, community groups, makers, cultures, and families together in the heart of downtown? You get Art in Motion - a celebration of the creativity, talent, and diversity that makes our community special!

Returning to First Street on Saturday, September 12, Art in Motion is an opportunity for local artists, organizations and community groups to step into the spotlight and share what they do best. From musicians and dancers to visual artists, makers and cultural organizations, the event provides a platform for people to showcase their unique skills, passions and traditions.

This year, Art in Motion is excited to welcome Culture Days under its umbrella, creating even more opportunities to celebrate the many cultures that make up our community. Visitors can experience culturally diverse performances, demonstrations, activities and information, including the Cultural Catwalk and other cultural experiences throughout the afternoon.

At its heart, Art in Motion is designed to be barrier-free, with something for everyone to enjoy. Whether you are an artist, a curious participant or simply looking for a fun afternoon with family and friends, there are countless ways to get involved.

Get creative with hands-on activities, contribute to a graffiti wall, explore the Open Air Art Market, watch artists at work or enjoy live music and performances in two spaces throughout the event. Food trucks will also be on hand with plenty of options to keep you fuelled as you explore.

Perhaps the best part of Art in Motion is that there is no single way to experience it. You might discover a new artist, learn about a different culture, try something creative, dance to live music or simply enjoy the energy of downtown.

Art in Motion is a celebration built by and for our community - shining a light on the incredible people, talents and cultures right here in Medicine Hat. Come downtown, get involved and see where creativity takes you!
