City to reopen Echo Dale Regional Park; Swim lake to remain closed
The City of Medicine Hat will reopen Echo Dale Regional Park on Friday, June 19, at 7 a.m.
To allow the City to continue supporting staff affected by Monday’s tragic event, the swim lake will remain closed until further notice. The lake will also be drained, as the City does not have sufficient staffing available at this time to safely supervise the site or manage restricted access. Draining the lake will eliminate the need for on-site security staff or barricades to prevent entry. All other park amenities will reopen.
The safety and wellbeing of residents and employees remains the City’s top priority. Keeping the swim lake closed will also allow the City to focus available aquatic staff and resources on safely operating its other open pool facilities, while ensuring appropriate staffing levels and supervision standards are maintained.
The City thanks the community for its patience, understanding, and compassion during this difficult time. Updates regarding the swim lake will be shared as they become available.
