Hillside Cemetery irrigation upgrades reach final phase
The fourth and final phase of the Hillside Cemetery Irrigation Rehabilitation project is set to begin on Wednesday, July 15.
The phased project has replaced the aging irrigation system which was installed in 1980. The original system has exceeded its intended lifespan, leading to increasing repair costs, reduced reliability, and inconsistent water delivery. Phase 4 focuses on the western quadrant of the Hillside Cemetery.

Hillside Cemetery will remain open during this construction to minimize the disruption. This construction may require brief road closures and pedestrian detours. Visitors are asked to be mindful of construction in the area and follow posted signage and barriers.
Cemetery staff will be available during office hours to assist with inquiries. Please view the Contact Us information on the right-hand side of the page for office hours and contact information.
Weather permitting, the final phase is anticipated to be complete by early October 2026.
Once complete, Hillside Cemetery will have a modern irrigation system to meet the needs of the park space’s unique role. As the largest irrigated space within the City’s parks network, Hillside Cemetery relies on a dependable irrigation system – not just to preserve functionality, but to properly pay respect to the nature of the space and those who visit to honour their loved ones.
The City of Medicine Hat would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding while this vital infrastructure improvement is completed.
