2025 Black History Month Summit

The Connection Intercultural Association of Medicine Hat invites you to attend the 2025 Black History Month Summit on February 25 at the Esplanade Studio Theatre.

This is a great opportunity to foster collaboration between Medicine Hat’s civic and economic leaders while exploring strategies to enhance community engagement and drive sustainable growth. By connecting diverse voices from the Black community in business, civic, and non-profit sectors, this summit aims to identify actionable solutions to propel the local economy and strengthen collective impact.

The event runs from 12 to 1:30 p.m. and lunch will be provided.

The theme for this year’s Black History Month is “Black Legacy and Leadership: Celebrating Canadian History and Uplifting Future Generations.”

Warm weather leads to slippery trails

With the forecast calling for daytime highs above freezing, that means slippery trails and sidewalks are also likely in the forecast for pedestrians.

We ask that you please proceed with caution on trails and sidewalks during this time. Signage will be posted in areas where a trail hazard is ahead. Please adhere to this signage and avoid these sections of trail where possible. Barricades may also be in place if a temporary closure is required due to ice build-up.

Our staff will be working to perform traction control in a timely manner – this may need to be reapplied several times as the daytime melt refreezes overnight. Thank you for your patience as we deal with these rapidly changing temperatures.

Unsure of which department to contact if you want to report an icy section of trail, sidewalk or road? Submit a ticket on our Report a Problem portal, which allows you to select the exact location and receive updates on the request.

From Judy to Bette

Thursday, Feb. 27 at 7:30 p.m. – Esplanade Main Stage

Judy Garland. Lucille Ball. Bette Davis. Betty Hutton. Trailblazers refusing to be “just another ingénue” during Hollywood’s Golden Age. They each broke the mold by taking the Hollywood studio system to task, fighting for the roles that made them famous, and opening doors that had previously been firmly shut for women in the film industry. This show weaves together scandalous headlines, iconic songs and comedy gold, journey through the groundbreaking careers of the screen legends of yesteryear. Having sold out over 20+ cities worldwide so far, this solo show is created and performed by triple BroadwayWorld award-winner Rebecca Perry (Stage/TV’s Confessions of a Redheaded Coffeeshop Girl). With this show, Perry shows that she not only creates her own wonderful characters, but beautifully inhabits those – maybe even larger still than her own – that inspire her.

Administration charges

The City of Medicine Hat, because of our unique energy business, wears many hats along the journey from producing energy to delivering it to your home. One of those duties is the retail side of energy. When you see “Administration charge” on your utility bill under the Electricity and Natural Gas sections, that charge is specifically devoted to covering the cost of administering customer accounts including billing, customer collections and customer inquiries. This includes generating your bill, printing/mailing, receiving payments, having staff to provide customer service, and the purchase and maintenance of software.

Administration charges (and all your other utility charges) are clearly defined in the “Understanding the language on your utility bill” section at medicinehat.ca/utilitybill.
