New intersection receiving traffic lights
South Boundary Road SE / Southlands Drive SE
Another intersection in Medicine Hat will be upgraded with traffic lights this fall. Work is now underway to install traffic lights at the intersection of South Boundary Road SE and Southlands Drive SE.
The intersection upgrades are a result of the growth and development in the Southlands neighbourhood, paired with the size and complexity of the intersection. The current intersection design has rapid flashing beacons for pedestrians crossing South Boundary Road.
Periodic lane closures will be required in the area to allow for this traffic light installation. For the safety of staff and the public, motorists are asked to proceed with caution and obey all construction signage and temporary speed limits in the area.
Weather permitting, the traffic lights are expected to be active and commissioned by mid to late October. Installation will be complete prior to this timeframe – however, they will remain covered and/or operate in flashing mode prior to being active and commissioned. This period ensures motorists are made aware and are prepared for these upcoming changes ahead of the traffic signals going live.
The public will be notified of the exact date the lights will be active and commissioned once it has been determined.
The City of Medicine Hat would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding while this vital infrastructure project is completed.
