Railway repairs force pair of short-term road closures
CPKC has begun scheduled repairs on the railway tracks on the bridge over the South Saskatchewan River. This work requires a pair of road and trail closures on both sides of the river – one underway and one upcoming.
On the south side of the river, River Road SE and the adjacent section of the Kiwanis Centennial Trail will be closed between the Riverside Veterans’ Memorial Park parking lot and Maple Avenue bridge. This closure will be in effect from May 6 to 11 between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. All three parkades on River Road will remain accessible from Fourth Avenue SE during this closure. The closure will also have no effect on access to:
- Medicine Hat Public Library and Fourth Avenue SE businesses south of First Street
- Ash Avenue SE off Maple Avenue SE/First Street SE
On the north side of the river, Parkview Drive SE and the adjacent section of the TransCanada Trail that run under the train bridge will be closed May 8 to 11 from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.
The City of Medicine Hat thanks motorists and multi-use trail users for their patience and understanding while these vital repairs take place.
