Section of Sprague Way SE set for road rehabilitation

The City of Medicine Hat will begin a road rehabilitation project on the westernmost block of Sprague Way SE starting Monday, June 29. This project will have a phased approach to limit motorist impacts.

Project elements

The rehabilitation project will target the block of Sprague Way SE from South Ridge Drive SE, up to and including the intersection of Shields Crescent SE / Sissons Crescent SE. It includes the following elements:

  • Replacing the existing road structure and repaving the roadway
  • Upgraded stormwater infrastructure, including catch basins
  • Concrete sidewalk, curb and gutter replacement

Project phases and schedule

Detour routes will be clearly marked. There will be no through traffic during both phases of this project. However, local traffic and emergency services will still be able to access nearby properties.

Phase 1

The project starts at the east end of the block, including the intersection at Shields Crescent / Sissons Crescent. It stops just short of the access to the apartments on the north side of Sprague Way.

Phase 2

The second phase of the rehabilitation project includes the remaining stretch of Sprague Way up to South Ridge Drive. As noted above, the affected apartments and townhouses will still be accessible from Sprague Way during this time.

What to expect during this work

Detours will be in place as construction begins. Traffic detours may change as crews shift between project phases. For the safety of staff and the public, motorists obey all construction signage, flag personnel and temporary speed limits in the area.

The City of Medicine Hat would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding while this vital infrastructure improvement project is completed.
