Tree removal, planting in Riverside Veterans' Memorial Park

Work has begun to remove dead and/or dying trees which pose potential hazards in Riverside Veterans' Memorial Park this week.

A total of 12 trees will be removed at various locations around the park as part of this effort. These trees have been identified due to their poor health and condition. While the loss of mature trees is never taken lightly, proactive removal of declining trees helps reduce potential hazards and supports the long-term health of the City’s urban forest.

Residents are asked to avoid areas where workers are present to give crews room to perform these tree removals. Work may continue after the Thanksgiving long weekend.

Tree removal is only the first step of the City’s ongoing commitment to maintain a safe, healthy, and sustainable urban forest.

While 12 trees will be removed, the City will plant more than 12 in Riverside Veterans’ Memorial Park in spring 2027. This work is part of the City’s Urban Canopy Enhancement Initiative, funded through the ongoing Growing Canada's Community Canopies (GCCC) grant program. These newly planted trees will contribute to a revitalized and expanded urban forest, enhance biodiversity, and benefit Medicine Hat for generations to come.

The City of Medicine Hat would like to thank affected residents for their patience and understanding while this vital work is completed.
