City lifts final high river precautions
The City of Medicine Hat is lifting the final high river flow precautions put in place on June 2, 2026 in response to increased river flow rates.
River conditions have continued to improve, allowing the City of Medicine Hat to safely restore access to the remaining parks, trails, and recreational areas affected by elevated river levels. This marks the final stage of the City’s phased reopening approach.
Reopened areas
- Fire Station No. 2 Boat Launch
- Low-lying trails along the river, including areas in Strathcona Island Park, Police Point Park, the Harlow neighbourhood, and Riverside neighbourhood.
- Police Point Park North Day Use Area
Areas reopening Friday, June 19
- Low-lying trails in Echo Dale Regional Park at 7 a.m.
- Echo Dale Regional Park Boat Launch at 7 a.m.
- Strathcona Island Park boat launch by 5 p.m.
*The Echo Dale boat launch and low lying trails were closed as a result of the high river flows earlier this month. Please note Echo Dale Swim Lake remains closed while all other park amenities will open on Friday. Refer to the following for more information: “City to reopen Echo Dale Regional Park; Swim lake to remain closed”
Residents are reminded to take care near the river, as banks may remain soft and conditions can change. Please respect all signage and use caution when accessing newly reopened areas.
The City thanks residents for their patience and cooperation throughout these precautionary measures.
