Community Warmth: neighbours helping neighbours since 2010
Community Warmth is a program whereby Medicine Hat utility customers subscribe to have a voluntary donation deducted from their utility bill. The Salvation Army administers the program and distributes the donations to those who are struggling to make utility payments.
Since the program began in 2010, a total of $330,499 has been donated, helping 616 families with utility assistance. Last year (2023), 39 families received support through $31,018 in donations.
There are currently 267 customers donating monthly to the program. It's easy to participate, simply 'set it and forget it'. Even $1 per month makes a difference.
Division Avenue rehabilitation project
Division Avenue South serves as crucial arterial road that serves a substantial residential area, with up to 10,000 vehicles using it each day.
The section of the road between 3rd Street SE and 12th Street SE is in poor condition, with significant cracking and damage to the pavement. This requires the road surface be completely removed and replaced. The anticipated start date for this project is in April 2024 (weather pending).

Third Street downtown utility and surface upgrades
We're upgrading downtown's water and sewer systems, originally installed back in the early 1900s. Our goal is to ensure a reliable and future-proof utility network along 3rd Street SE. Businesses will remain open during the construction - please support them if you are able. The anticipated start date for this project is in April 2024 (weather pending).
Volunteer shoutout
The City is grateful for all the volunteers in our community. This week, we showcased Ron from the Adopt-a-Rink program, who has dedicated his time for more than two decades to maintaining an outdoor rink. His commitment and effort in ensuring these facilities are available for everyone's enjoyment are highly valued.

Transportation Master Plan
We greatly appreciate your input. To shape the future of our city's transportation network, the Transportation Master Plan is conducting three, online surveys within the community. Have your say (click on each of the links to fill out the respective surveys):
