Tackling misconceptions about well-being

In order to foster a well-informed and connected community, it's important to address misconceptions. The City has gathered and responded to some myths about well-being unique to Medicine Hat. Let's dive into one here.

Myth: Violent crime is out of control in downtown Medicine Hat

Response:

  • Numerous misconceptions circulate about downtown areas being synonymous with violent crime. Nevertheless, the recently launched crime map on the Medicine Hat website challenges these assumptions, shedding light on the fact that service calls in the downtown area do not necessarily indicate violent criminal activities.
  • The updated map demonstrates that a significant portion of reported calls downtown pertain to vehicle-related incidents and public assistance, dispelling the notion that all service calls are linked to violent offenses. This information provides a more nuanced understanding of the downtown community, emphasizing that service calls encompass a wide range of situations beyond what might be traditionally associated with crime.

What's the difference between TIPP and TAPP?

While paying taxes might not be fun, saying TIPP and TAPP sure is! Here's what the acronyms mean:

TIPP is the Tax Instalment Payment Plan which allows taxpayers to pay their property taxes in monthly instalments by pre-authorized transfer of funds from their bank account, rather than one single tax payment. Payments are automatic, convenient and reliable, ensuring that your tax bill is paid even if you are on vacation, out of town on business, or unwell.

Tax instalment payment plan

TAPP stands for Tax Arrears Payment Plan which is an optional monthly plan that allows taxpayers to make consecutive monthly payments for current taxes and taxes in arrears over a term not exceeding 24 months. If you are behind on your taxes, the TAPP can help you avoid ongoing collection notices or further collection action such as a Tax Sale of the property.

Tax notices will be delivered this May. Investigate these and other methods of payment on our website.
