Road rehabilitation project set for Shaw Crescent SE

The City of Medicine Hat will continue road rehabilitation efforts within the South Ridge neighbourhood, as work is set to begin on Shaw Crescent SE on Monday, August 10. The project will have a two-phased approach to limit motorist impacts.

Project elements

All of Shaw Crescent SE will be rehabilitated as part of this project, and will include the following elements:

  • Replacing the existing road structure and repaving the roadway
  • Upgraded stormwater infrastructure, including catch basins
  • Concrete sidewalk, curb and gutter replacement

Project phases and schedule

Detour routes will be clearly marked. There will be no through traffic during both phases of this project. However, local traffic and emergency services will still be able to access nearby properties.

Phase 1

Work will begin on the western section of Shaw Crescent SE, which backs South Ridge Community Park. The first phase also includes the intersection at Stapeford Crescent SE and western intersection of Sharpe Crescent SE. Stratton Way SE will be unaffected during this phase.

Phase 2

The second phase of the rehabilitation project includes the southern section of Shaw Crescent SE, including the southern intersection of Sharpe Crescent SE. Sprague Way SE will be unaffected. Parking access will be restricted during this phase. Alternative parking options have been communicated directly with affected residences to minimize impacts. These parking options will be communicated again to affected residences before the second phase begins.

What to expect during this work

Detours will be in place as construction begins. Traffic detours and construction fencing will change as crews shift between project phases. For the safety of staff and the public, motorists are asked to obey all construction signage, flag personnel and temporary speed limits in the area.

The City of Medicine Hat would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding while this vital infrastructure improvement project is completed.
