What We Heard Report published for Riverside Corridor Enhancement Project

The City of Medicine Hat has completed and published its What We Heard Report for the Riverside Corridor Enhancement Project. The project focuses on roadway renewal, deep utility upgrades, and safety improvements for Third Street North, an approximately two-kilometre corridor through the historic Riverside neighbourhood.

The What We Heard Report document contains all community input received through the official engagement process on the revised corridor design concept– resulting in a 69-page report, and approximately 330 pages of comments captured through the survey. The purpose of engagement is to provide decision-makers with a clear understanding of community perspectives and the trade-offs associated with different options. The report concludes the extensive second phase of public engagement for this project, which began in mid-May. Residents are encouraged to take time to review the report linked above.

The second phase included several engagement methods as part of a thorough approach to encourage broad and diverse community participation:

• Riverside Community Connect (neighbourhood association) meetings
• One-on-one meetings with Riverside businesses and organizations
• Door-to-door visits with over 220 households along the corridor
• A detailed survey with 696 participants
• Four open houses
  

Please note, no decisions have been made on the project design. With the What We Heard Report now complete, administration is reviewing the feedback to determine options for City Council to consider for design approval. These options will come forward to Council in the near future.

Participants raised many thoughtful questions throughout this process. An updated Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document has been prepared to address the most common topics and concerns.

Residents are invited to complete a brief five-minute survey to help staff evaluate the public participation process.
