  • City Continues to Open Recreation Facilities as Pandemic Evolves

    Medicine Hat – On Monday, Sept. 14, the City of Medicine Hat opened Kinplex 1, the third ice surface to return to operation since facilities closed due to COVID-19.

  • City Optimistic on Future Planning for Special Olympics

    Medicine Hat – The City of Medicine Hat is now consulting with stakeholders and adjusting plans in light of today’s announcement from Special Olympics Canada (SOC) regarding the cancellation of the Special Olympics Canada Summer Games 2022 in Medicine Hat. With a number of challenges emerging due to COVID-19, including the inability to hold regional competitions in 2020 and the potential challenges with competitions into 2021, SOC elected to cancel the Games acknowledging that the typical pathways that qualify athletes for national competition are not possible.

  • FLC Parking Lot Improvements Complete

    Medicine Hat – Work to improve the safety, traffic flow, and capacity of the Family Leisure Center west parking area is now complete. Remaining landscape work will continue throughout September.

  • Family Leisure Centre to Offer Additional Programming as Member Rates Return

    Medicine Hat – In line with the Big Marble Go Centre’s safe relaunch, additional programming will be available beginning Tuesday, September 1, 2020. “We’re excited to be able to offer more opportunities to play badminton, basketball and pickleball and are gearing up to be able to offer more than 30 fitness classes each week,” said James Will, General Manager of Parks & Recreation.

  • Transit Updating Single Ride Fare, September Passes Now Available

    Medicine Hat – Beginning Tuesday, September 1, Medicine Hat Transit (MHT) will be increasing single ride fare to $2. 00 per passenger following a successful return to non-essential travel. Transfers will continue to be unavailable until further notice, as well as the sale and use of MHT tickets.

  • Construction of Concrete Stairs to Enhance River Access at Strathcona Boat Launch

    Medicine Hat – In order to expand recreational opportunities along the South Saskatchewan River, a set of concrete stairs will be constructed at the Strathcona Boat Launch. .

  • City Ratifies New Collective Agreement with Canadian Union of Public Employees

    Medicine Hat – The City of Medicine Hat has ratified a new collective agreement with Local #46 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees. The previous agreement expired on December 31, 2019.

  • LED Lighting Installed at Cenovus Arena

    Medicine Hat – The installation of new LED lighting inside the Cenovus Arena at the Big Marble Go Centre has been completed. 50 LED lighting high bay fixtures, and 3 LED lighting wall packs have been installed, replacing the original lighting inside the arena over the ice and the stands.

  • Crestwood Recreation Centre Reopening Delayed

    Medicine Hat – The Crestwood Recreation Centre, originally scheduled to reopen this fall, has been delayed as part of the City’s review of safely reopening facility operations. City staff worked closely with Alberta Health Services to understand best practices for all of our facilities.

  • Transit Updating Capacity Limits, Encouraging Riders to Wear Masks

    Medicine Hat – Beginning Monday, July 20, Medicine Hat Transit (MHT) will further ease restrictions for riders. In following with the updated guidelines released by the Government of Alberta, MHT will remove the ‘Essential Travel Only’ guidelines, as well as update capacity limits.
