National Indigenous History Month: Saratoga Park
Located in the heart of Medicine Hat, Saratoga Park was once home to a close-knit Métis community. Beginning in the late 1920s, families built their lives here, forming strong connections rooted in resilience, resourcefulness, and community.
Through oral histories, stories of daily life, hardship, and belonging continue to shed light on the experiences of those who called Saratoga Park home for decades.
As we recognize National Indigenous History Month, it’s an opportunity to reflect on these histories and the enduring connections between people, community, and place.

Play a role in developing your community
Join the Subdivision and Development Appeal Board (SDAB)
SDAB members play an important role in local decision‑making by hearing appeals related to development decisions and property standards. As an independent, quasi‑judicial board established under Alberta’s Municipal Government Act, the SDAB helps ensure decisions are fair, balanced, and rooted in the public interest.
If you’re a Medicine Hat resident who’s interested in civic engagement, community building, or learning more about land use and development, this is a rewarding opportunity to lend your perspective and make a real impact. Apply by July 24.
