Community Survey 2022
This is the first-ever scientific community survey done in Medicine Hat. Conducted by Ipsos, the report outlines resident satisfaction on a number of City services, which services are most important to residents and other indicators. The survey is considered representative of the population. A voluntary online survey was conducted simultaneously. The results of the online survey are reported separately and are not considered representative as participants were not randomly selected.
Additional Key Findings:
- While overall perceptions of quality of life are high, COVID-19 and the cost of living are making more residents see quality of life worsening versus improving.
- Municipal government services (particularly utilities costs), social issues, and the economy lead the public issue agenda.
- Residents want more information on City finances and community planning, and email was cited as the preferred way to receive information.
- There is opportunity to improve the public engagement process by offering more opportunities for input and explaining how the feedback will be used, including any other factors or considerations that play a role in shaping final decisions.
- Satisfaction with the City’s customer service is high, with staff courteousness standing out as a service highlight.
- Opinion is split on balancing taxation and service delivery levels.
