The EnerGuide Home Evaluation Incentive Program offers a rebate for pre-renovation and post-renovation EnerGuide Evaluations completed within the program term. This encourages homeowners to learn how their home uses energy and what improvements can be made to increase their home’s energy efficiency.
The Program is designed to assist with the cost of pre-renovation EnerGuide Home Evaluations for existing homes, prior to completing energy efficient upgrades and post-renovation following energy efficient upgrades.
What's new for 2026?
The EnerGuide Home Evaluation Incentive Program now carries increased rebate values for pre-renovation home evaluations plus a new rebate category for post-renovation EnerGuide Home Evaluations.
To qualify for a rebate, all EnerGuide Home Evaluation documentation must reference a City of Medicine Hat Home Energy Program unique identifier code (either HATSmart or CEIP). Please plan your projects to consider these incentive program changes.
What is a home evaluation?
An EnerGuide home evaluation is an in-home consultation by a registered energy advisor who provides a personalized report describing your home's current energy performance. The report advises on ways to improve your home's energy efficiency and comfort that may reduce greenhouse gas emissions and save money on utility bills over time!
1.1 Before upgrade (pre-renovation)
Documentation of a pre-renovation EnerGuide Home Evaluation includes the following detailed reports:
- Homeowner Information Sheet and EnerGuide Label
- Renovation Upgrade Report
These detailed reports help guide homeowners along their renovation journey and these reports are required to qualify for Reservation of Funds in the HAT Smart Existing Homes Incentive program.
1.2 After upgrade (post-renovation)
A post-renovation EnerGuide Home Evaluation includes the following detailed reports:
- Homeowner Information Sheet and EnerGuide Label
This detailed report verifies and quantifies your homes new energy performance following your upgrade, and this report is required to qualify for a Request for Rebate in the HAT Smart Existing Homes Incentive Program.
This assessment is nearly identical to the initial evaluation, and involves an inspection of the newly installed upgrades, the building envelope (insulation, windows, doors), mechanical systems, and a final blower door test to measure airtightness.
1.3 Who is qualified to complete a home evaluation?
In order for the EnerGuide Home Evaluation to be eligible for the Hat Smart rebate, the home evaluation consisting of the EnerGuide Label and Home Owner Report must be evaluated under the EnerGuide Rating System v.15 rating system and must be completed by a Natural Resources Canada registered energy advisor, with a current City of Medicine Hat Business License.
The Registered Energy Advisor completing the home evaluation must include:
- a City of Medicine Hat Home Energy Program unique identifier code (either HATSmart or CEIP)
- their current City of Medicine Hat Business License number on the paid receipt
Without a City of Medicine Hat Home Energy Program unique identifier and Business License Number, the EnerGuide Home Evaluation will not qualify for a rebate under the EnerGuide Evaluation Incentive Program.
